Strength in Numbers Tutoring has a stronger mission statement for the start of the new school year. It better communicates what we do and why we do it.
Here it is:
Strength in Numbers Tutoring empowers |
We feel like this better captures the social problem we work to eliminate. Students from all walks of life face daunting challenges to obtain the future they want. Many come from economically-disadvantaged situations. Others have academic obstacles stemming from shortcomings in their prior schooling. Both challenges threaten a student's loss of opportunity.
Those lost opportunities may be a high school course that becomes unavailable due to failure. Or a post-secondary opportunity like a four-year college that is lost due to low grades.
Worst of all, students who don't receive the necessary one-on-one attention to pass will fail core high school courses and face the terrible option of dropping out. Needless to say a high school dropout will have far fewer opportunities than his or her high school graduate classmate.
We think of it as helping students bridge the gap. That "gap" may be academic, where the student has had bad experiences in math but wants to pursue a career that requires math. The gap may be financial, where the student doesn't have the means to afford a private tutor.
Personalized tutoring is a powerful way to change a young person's life. The extra and expert attention we give our students makes a difference.
Now help us get the word out! Pass along the word that there finally is an answer to the demand from many politicians and community leaders for better educated high school graduates. No student will be turned away.
We also welcome your financial support to make this mission possible. Click on Donate under Who We Are to make a contribution or contact us today for more information.
Take a moment and share in the comments below how your knowledge of either school math or real-world math has helped you gain a better career or financial opportunity. I will collect these and include them with my own in a future blog.
